How Biohackn glasses helps seniors ?
At Biohackn, we believe that one can learn a lot from our ancestors, and blending ancestral wisdom and modern science is a great strategy to be healthy, happy, and extend lifespan. As we age, one of the issues that arise is cataracts. Cataracts is a condition where the lens of the eye becomes cloudy or frosty. The number of blind people in the world and the proportion due to cataracts is increasing significantly. It is estimated that up to 8,000 million people had cataracts in 2020. What concerned us the most is that cataracts and other age-related vision issues impact the quality of people's lives.
Seniors often find it difficult to read, drive, and sometimes see the expression on people's faces too. Hence is why we kept our senior's community in mind while designing Oli's. In addition, we know that Cataract extraction and intraocular lens (IOL) implementation could increase the blue light that reaches the retina. So, to prevent the harmful effects of blue light on seniors, we came up with a comfortable and stylish solution by creating Oli's.
As we age, a process known as Rhodopsin bleaching is responsible for visual transduction and the negative impact on the retinal photoreceptors. Therefore, as exposure to light can induce light harmful reactive oxygen species generated by the Rhodopsin bleaching, which can also form compounds in the retinal pigmented epithelium such as A2E (bis-retinaldehyde-phosphatidylethanolamine).
Then comes melanosomes, which are organelles in the retinal epithelium, most susceptible to the impact caused by exposure to blue light. Therefore, it becomes an important area to consider when the protection of eyes is concerned. First, it could reduce melanin levels - Melanin is an antioxidant that can protect the retina. Second, light damage can lead to visual cell death through apoptosis, which translates into cell death. The more cells die, the weaker one gets, and we want to see a community of healthy people as opposed to weak ones. Therefore, using Biohackn as a tool or intervention can reduce cell loss via apoptosis and keep elders strong and healthy.
